Abstract

According to some studies, job satisfaction positively
influences job performance as well as a company’s overall
performance. However, there are other studies that present an
opposite relationship between them. Also, there is very little
bibliography about this relationship in the context of small
and medium-size enterprises (SMEs) in the security industry.
The purpose of this study is to verify the relationship between
job satisfaction and job performance for the case of a SME
in the security sector located in Lima, Peru. A correlational
descriptive research was conducted, by making use of two
questionnaires, one to evaluate employee’s job performance
and the other for job satisfaction. Both questionnaires were
applied to a representative sample of security agents.
The results indicate that the correlation between job
satisfaction and job performance is statistically significant.
They also reveal that significance of task is the only aspect
by which job satisfaction is highly related to job performance.
On the other hand, economic benefit (incentive) is the aspect
by which job satisfaction finds a weak relationship with job
performance. These findings suggest, firstly, the need to
periodically evaluate employees’ satisfaction by measuring
different aspects of job satisfaction, including the significance
of the task; and secondly, the need to intervene in case of job
dissatisfaction to improve motivation of security agents.
